( Items under the cut. )
Finally, after much deliberation and working and dying, I finished Deathly Hallows. I suppose I'll just label this whole post as ***SPOILER*** because it's my thoughts on it all. Well, the thoughts you can decipher between all the squees.
First and foremost, let me revel in the final fact that Snape turned out to be good after all. YES!!!! I had held out hope through the book, because I had forgotten just how good Dumbledore and Snape had played their parts. What I mean to say is, Snape was sneaky in his goodness, playing the Death Eater part so well. I love Snape. *squee* :D
Also, Neville so most certainly is my hero! Well, along with Snape. Though I do feel he should have had a bigger part, something less rushed than the decapitation of Nagini. ^^; But when he first appeared, I was so thrilled. (And the Michael Corner bit--oh, how I'd love to have the details of that...)
Um, well, perhaps I shouldn't be putting this in words, but I loved Tonks until she got pregnant. It was okay that she hooked up with Remus. I can deal with that, though I think it would have been better if she hooked up with Sirius and he had lived. I mean, I love Remus and Tonks both, but together they are bleh. (Mostly 'cos I'm almost positive J.K. wouldn't know how to write a brave heroine if it bit her in the ass--Tonks was great until we realized she was in love with Remus, but then she just had to be all gushy and crap. But that's just me not quite enjoying Rowling's characterization. ^^;) This fact is proven best by the fact that Remus and Tonks just had to have a child together. Remus, you were so on the right track... You should have prevented it! (And his name, too--Teddy? It could only have been worse if it had been Bob. Ergh. At least give him a good name so there can be good fanfiction about him that isn't demolished by the names.)
I was also under the impression the the Ravenclaw item would have been her wand--it was the display in Ollivander's shop window. So it was mentioned. But oh well. *shrugs* But for the first time ever we were allowed to visit Ravenclaw Tower!!! *squee* XDD It was amazing! A and the question instead of a password--ingenious!!! Oooh, it was simply amazing. (I would have said 'Why didn't we get to meet Ravenclaws? They were the only ones left out!' but we really don't meet many Hufflepuffs either, so it evens out. ^^;)
Oh, I really surprisingly ship Severus/Lily though... (Not least because it made Sev angsty. XD) But they are really cute together. Just imagine! That begs for fanart now, squee. XD
Argh, but a long-standing chunk of my childhood/teen years is now empty! T^T What will my generation do...those of us who were avidly obsessed... I guess I should go start where I left off in Shoebox Project! I mean, the fandom is what makes me love this series the most...
because 'I solemnly swear I am up to no good.' XD
So, OotP midnight show -- 7 theaters at Aliso, all sold out 4 hours before, and though the waiting made me tired and antsy both, it was extremely worth it, considering this installment of HP is so far the best. I like this director, he should stick with it. Even if there was no Quidditch, at least I didn't have to gag on the nylon Muggle-inspired Quidditch outfits from GoF. ^^; They left out a few things, like Sirius’ two-way mirror, but some small details from GoF that repeat here are done better: when Sirius speaks to Harry through the fire, it’s not some crappy CG face made of embers, it’s a floating face in the flames. Way better aesthetics. :D (Plus Lupin’s mustache is slightly more tolerable this time—it no longer looks like John Waters’. ^^;) But the absolute best part people-wise is the choices for Tonks and Bellatrix: Tonks actually looks cute, and even though her hair’s not short, the disguising is well done: she gets annoyed, and *pop* her hair’s bright orange. :D But Bellatrix, oh, what can I say, except that they picked Helena Bonham-Carter!! XDD Seriously, for the first time someone was picked for the movies who I would’ve picked myself. It’s a first.
Definitely 9/10 stars. ^^
Also, I bought the new Interpol record, Our Love To Admire, and don’t listen to the reviews that say it’s stale, that they need to change their sound: The way I see it, almost any time a band changes their sound, it’s for the worse. But this album is fantastic; sure it has a couple of weak spots, but Paul Banks’ lyrics are as awesomely inscrutable as ever, the music is solid, and the chemistry is tight. You can’t ask for more. My personal favorite is “Pioneer To The Falls”. The pervasive guitar line kills me, it’s so good. (Holden Caulfield moment!)
Prepare for my utterly embarrassing obsessiveness:
On a side note, last night my dreams were the most amazingly dorky dreams I’ve had since I dreamed about Cillian Murphy a week before Red Eye came out. (But a double-dose in a night—meaning it’s doubly embarrassing.) ^^;; The first dream was set in my old house in Laguna, trying to catch this girl who I think looked like a younger version of my cousin’s friend Amy. I had help (it was like a spy-team or something) and then somebody tells me Paul (as in Banks o.o) was shot, and I grab this big kitchen knife and stab her, then run out to see him. Oh,God, it’s so dorky. ^^;;; (What is it with me and guys I “like” getting shot in my dreams? What would Freud say…) Then, to capitalize on the dorkiness, the next dream I had, my friends and I were standing in line for OotP and across from us is the end of the line, was Paul Banks again. I practically died…But I wanted it to be real very badly when I woke up. Needless to say, I need a boyfriend. ^^;;
